Heavenly Sweet and Salty Combinations to Tempt Your Palate This Christmas

The combination of sweet and salty provides an unexpected pleasure to our taste buds. No one likes too much sugar or too much salt, so the mixture creates a perfect balance. Plus, salt is a flavour enhancer – adding salt to any of your favourite sweets will only enhance the sugar flavour!

This Christmas season, consider serving your guests some of these unique, sweet and salty treats.

Bacon and Cinnamon Rolls

The idea of putting salted pork on a delicious sweet cinnamon roll might sound strange, but don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. When rolling the pastry dough with the cinnamon, simply add bacon into the mix. The sizzling bacon will mix surprisingly well with the sweetness of the rolls when baked together.

Sweet and Salty Donuts

Cinnamon rolls aren’t the only sweet treats that deserve to be topped with salty bacon. Any type of donut – particularly old-fashioned or sourdough will go quite well with bacon on top as well.

Nutella BLT

Again, bacon makes its appearance on this unique treat/meal. This time, the sweetness comes from none other than Nutella itself. Is there anything more delectable than rich, creamy Nutella? Chocolate in the form of a spread is as tempting as it gets, and when combined with bacon on a BLT sandwich, you’d be amazed at the flavour that can burst out of this concoction.

Walnut Cinnamon Bites

Although the walnuts used in this recipe aren’t exactly salty, the nuts provide a wonderful contrast to the sweetness and texture of the cinnamon roll. After all, nuts and sweets go together like peanut butter and jelly, don’t they?

Red Wine on Sugared Bread

OK, this particular treat isn’t exactly as salty as the ones mentioned above. But the bread does have some salt in it! This treat is easy to make and is an old-school tradition among Italians. Simply pour red wine over top a thick slice of Italian bread, then sprinkle some regular table sugar. It’s a classic treat that will have you hooked the first time you try it!

If you don’t have the time to bake this Christmas, then leave that to us, and spread your table with delectable treats from Sweet Boutique!
