Apple Pie

Ah, Apple Pie, an American staple, but we’re not here to decide which is the better American dessert (especially because we’re Canadian), but which is the better fall dessert. 

In terms of just the pros of an apple pie, it’s just delicious warmed up with some ice cream - no one can beat that flavour. It reheats well – perfect for Thanksgiving leftovers. It has way more crust than a pumpkin pie. And, it’s just straight up a classic pie. 

If we’re talking mid-September, beginning of fall, then who doesn’t think of apple pie and apple orchards. Nothing beats the flavours of a freshly picked apple – it’s truly nostalgic. Apple pie makes us think of childhood - fresh-baked apple pie was the dessert that reminded everyone of fall as a kid. 

However, apple pie could also be considered a summer dessert, sharing two seasons instead of just one. And, honestly, you can enjoy apple pie at any time of the year, no matter the season. Can we say the same about pumpkin pie? Let’s see.

Pumpkin Pie

When we think of pumpkin pie, we instantly think of pumpkin spice season when the weather gets cold and the scarves come out! Can we really say the same for apple pie?

Let’s start with the pros of pumpkin pie. It’s healthier than apple pie with fewer calories and sugar. Plus, it’s packed with natural antioxidants like Vitamin C and A – all while still tasting absolutely delicious! It’s a pretty traditional dessert around Thanksgiving. It’s super easy to make at home. And it’s tasty served cold and warm.

As for fall, that’s when pumpkin everything is rolled out. Pumpkin pie is only seasonal, which we can’t say the same for apple pie. There are pumpkin spiced lattes, pumpkin donuts, pumpkin tarts, and pumpkin everything around this time! Fall just feels like pumpkin season so pumpkin pie has to win the fall showdown, right?

Well, some may say pumpkin pie is the ultimate Thanksgiving dessert, so does that really make it the ultimate fall dessert?

To be honest, we were a little surprised at first, but then we remembered how much you all love our warm apple pies! It was a close call - we also know most of you can’t wait for our pumpkin pies to roll out every fall! It was definitely a close race.

Conclusion 

Ultimately, we believe both are the fall dessert. We know we're not making a clear decision, but they both truly deserve the top spot. We’ve decided that apple pie is the best dessert for the beginning of fall, and pumpkin pie is better as the months get colder and deeper into fall. Overall, we’d never complain about having either pie!
